Nemalux LED Lighting FAQ

How many lights should I put in? What is a Lumen? How bright is the light?

As a rule of thumb and in approximation, one LED is equivalent to a 10-watt incandescent bulb in brightness. One CANLED containing six LEDs is equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent. A lumen is a unit of measurement for light. A standard 60-watt incandescent bulb is rated for 900 lumens of omni-directional light. When installed inside a fixture, the measured output of that same bulb may only yield 45%-60% of the lumens specified, meaning that 60 watts of light equates to 450 lumens of directional light. Because LEDs are directional, a  CANLED with 6 LEDs each rated at 80 lumens, offers over 410 lumens of directional light. That’s over 90% of the lighting with 15% of the power consumption.

How many LEDs does it take to replace a HPS, incandescent or florescent light?

This can vary for each specific application with directionality and the physical area requiring illumination being the main variables. As a basic guide, a 6 LED fixture (CANLED) provides approximately as much light as a standard 60W incandescent light bulb, and a 24 LED fixture  (XCANLED) is equivalent to a 150W HPS lamp.

Are your fixtures AC or DC powered?

All Nemalux fixtures are low voltage DC (12-24VDC) and require a power supply to allow for use with standard 120VAC. A more in depth explanation to this can be found in our information area.

Are your fixtures dimmable?

LED light fixtures are dimmable on the DC side of the power supply. Typically a control wire would be run to each power supply. A wall switch only dimmer succeeds in dimming (and potentially damaging) the power supply and not the LED. This is comparable to dimming a compact fluorescent or florescent tube from a household wall dimmer.

How are your fixtures installed?

Our fixtures are shipped with mounting brackets. For detailed information regarding installation, please refer to our  Product Section.

What happens when the bulb burns out?

LEDs typically do not ‘burn out’ like standard light bulbs. Rather, they gradually degrade over time. Our fixtures should retain 70% or more of their brightness for up to 100,000 hours, which is 20 years if operated for 12 hours a day.

How long does it take to get a fixture delivered?

Our standard products usually ship within 3-5 business days. Large or custom orders can vary from 2 to 6 weeks.

Can your products be customized?

Yes, most of our products can be made to fit the customer’s individual application.

What is the difference between Cool White and Warm White?

Warm white was developed to mimic an incandescent light bulb and may be a better choice for applications which require a softer light, for example, residential uses. Cool white is more like the color of white that is produced by fluorescent lights. It is 25% brighter than warm white and is better for applications that require increased illumination or more energy efficient fixtures.

How would one become an International Distributor?
